As humans developed agriculture-based and then industrial society, we formed new myths about ourselves and the world around us. Many of those newer myths have had very harmful consequences for individuals, society, and/or nature.
The Associate Member Curriculum questions those harmful myths, which are listed here in three general categories.
- Myths About How We Live
- Myth: Nuclear families are self-sufficient.
- Myth: Children should be in classrooms.
- Myth: Work, play, and exercise are distinct.
- Myth: Buildings need lawns.
- Myth: Farming is for peasants.
- Myth: More comfort/ease is always better.
- Myth: All costs can be measured by money.
- Myth: Waste is an inevitable nuisance.
- Myth: Toilets are like garbage cans.
